This job is for a fully experienced creative technician to take overall responsibility for the success and commercial effectiveness of all the company’s websites. It will involve working on the premises, in Leicester, within a small graphics & IT department, working in Windows and being responsible for designing and building, developing, maintaining, managing and optimising a number of company-related websites. These sites include e-commerce, brand promotion, product cataloguing, corporate and trade ordering, social networking, etc, and an online ‘gothic’ magazine/theme park/portal.

The Alchemy Group/Alchemy Carta Ltd., as you may see from our existing corporate website, (www.alchemygroup.com), is over 30 years old and is a specialist design house and a manufacturing and distribution company. Alchemy Studios create commercial art and design and also make jewellery, giftware and merchandise and undertake commission work for many other companies. It manufactures on the premises, principally in pewter.

The section in which this vacancy exists is the Alchemy Origination Department, responsible for all the company’s creative work including product design and development, fine arts, publishing and printing, and ICT projects, and consists of a small team of 10 or 11 people including artists and graphic designers, model makers and technicians.

As Webmaster, you would work directly with the Origination Manager and the ICT manager, (who’s own responsibilities include programming, server and database management, and technical website planning, building and coding), and be under the Origination Director, (responsible overall for conceptual and artistic direction of the web sites). Graphic design skills and experience would be a considerable asset, although support from our artists and illustrator would always be available.

Job responsibilities will include:

• Developing website concepts and strategy.
• Creating, developing and maintaining overall site designs and layouts, visual concepts and styles.
• Developing active social networking within the alchemygothic.com site and helping maintain Alchemy’s blogs, FaceBook, MySpace, Twitter presences, etc.
• Website optimisation: efficiently monitor and manage each site’s performance, increasing active visitor numbers to all web sites and achieving top-10 Google results for all relevant search requests.
• Preferably, also, creating graphical elements for the various websites.

In order to achieve these tasks effectively, you would be expected to be conversant with all the latest ICT technology and developments, and with essential programs/languages such as Photoshop, Illustrator/Freehand, Flash, Dreamweaver, HTML/XHTML, Joomla, ASP, JavaScript, SQL, eCommerce, etc, and preferably have some experience and proficiency also in graphic design.

Salary on offer for this position is will be commensurate with suitability and experience and is therefore negotiable.

The normal working week at Alchemy Studios is 9.30 am to 5.30 pm., Monday to Friday, at our main UK premises in Leicester near Fosse Park.
